The day began well at Hook BC, with Wendy Aherne, Diane Yarrall, Sue Dixon and Janie Vickers beating Old Basing to reach the final of the North Hants Women's Fours competition. For the players and their supporters it was then a rush back to Malshanger for the Club's annual BBQ, which again proved a huge success. Attended by around 80 members and friends it was good to have so many of our newer members joining us. The weather was kind. We enjoyed thoroughly our popular guest singer, Kate Aherne and, as usual the food provided by Graham and Amanda was excellent. The bar was busy throughout and our thanks go to those who served us but particularly Peter Pearce and Hugh Aherne who served behind it for most of the afternoon. Events like this do not just happen. Gazebos have to be erected (and taken down). Chairs have to put out and taken in again. Plates and glasses need washing. Raffle prizes have to be purchased and tickets sold. It is very much a team effort and thanks go not only to Wendy and her Social Committee but to everyone who, on the day, mucked in and helped. Well done Oakley - yet another successful event.
