The weekend saw three Oakley teams competing in tournaments for outdoor teams. Saturday evening saw the "B" team of Diane Yarrall, Jo Holland, Ken Phillips and Hugh Aherne and the "A" team of Ric Newson, Sean Lassman, Bob Goodyear and Malcolm Grime competing at Loddon Vale, in the single rink Ambler/Fuller Trophy. Hugh's team, in a nail biting game, came out on top 19-18 against Howard Park but it did not look good for Malcolm's team as they trailled 15-8 against the 2024 runners up Aldermaston "B". A strong late rally from Oakley led eventually to a 34-19 win.
Sunday morning meant a trip to Longmeadow for the double rink Moreton Cup competition. The rink of Ric Newson, Sue Dixon, Steve Devonish and Malcolm Grime were fast out of the block but Mary Varndell, Jim Dixon, Sean Lassman and Bob Goodyear's four was struggling and, at halfway, had won only one end. Fortunately, they had kept their opponents from Andover to single shots and so overall Oakley had a six shot lead. Again a late Oakley rally proved decisive with the Club coming out on top 42-21.
Well done all twelve players.
