SEMI FINAL DISAPPOINTMENT
Oakley Bowling Club
Tonight at Basingstoke Town, in the semi final of the BDBA Fours, the Oakley rink of Leigh Allen, Sean Lassman, Ashley Nethercliffe and Nick Hardy roared out of the blocks in their match against the Alton four, skipped by David Sims. Looking to repeat Oakley's final win over Alton in 2018, when Oakley snatched victory on the last end, Oakley, by 8 ends, were leading 14-0 and, even though they struggled as Alton reduced the jack length, at 15 ends they still led 15-9. In this year's County Competitions that would have been the end of the match, but the BDBA operate on the 21 end format and by now the momentum was with Alton. From ends 13 to 20 Alton scored 14 unanswered shots, leaving Oakley needing to score a two on the final end to take the match to an extra end. It was not to be. Only a single was achieved and Oakley lost 16-17 giving Alton revenge for two previous narrow final defeats at Oakley's hands. Good luck to Alton in the Final to be held over the weekend of 21/23 August.
