At Banister Park this evening, Alice Lovett and Nicole Rogers were the two representatives from the Northern Area in the County Two Wood Singles Last Eights. For Alice, at age 15 and the youngest competitor, it was a disappointing evening as she struggled to come to terms with the green and was well beaten by Jennie Cooper of the Pelhams club in Bournemouth. Nicole, however, fared better and, after her customary slow start beat Sandra Bain of Atherley to reach the semi-final. Nicole's hopes of reaching the final for the second successive year looked slim as she again began slowly against Swanmore's Jean Philip but gradually she took control clinching victory on the 20th end. How different these games were from those in the Northern Area where she qualified after twice winning on extra ends. The Club's congratulations go to both players on their achievement in reaching the Last Eights and we wish Nicole good luck at Leamington.
