A close match was expected this morning when Oakley took on Alton Social in the National Double Rink competition. With home advantage, Oakley possibly started as slight favourites but it was Social that made the better start leading, after 6 ends, by 6 shots, with the rink skipped by Adam White storming to a 15-0 lead over Ashley's Nethercliffe's rink. A strong rally by the latter brought Oakley back into the game and at 12 ends just one shot separated the two teams. The game remained close and after 17 ends it was still anyone's match as Oakley's lead was a slender 3 shots. It was, however, Oakley that had the better of the critical last end with Nick Hardy's rink picking up a 4 and Ashley's a single to clinch a 38-30 victory.

Oakley scores: Leigh Allen, Malcolm Grime, Martin Vickers and Ashley Nethercliffe lost 12-23, Steve Devonish, Sean Lassman, Fred Norris and Nick Hardy won 26-7.
