It was not to be on Wednesday morning for Sue Dixon and Janie Vickers. Playing at Banister Park and looking to lift the Golden Girls title, for the second time, they led Ringwood 9-8 after 6 ends and 14-10 after 12 but when, on the next end, Ringwoog gained possession of the jack and reverted to their favoured short length, the game changed. Two successive scores of three for Ringwood saw Oakley 18-14 down with 2 ends to go. A two on the 17th end set up a final end shoot out but it was Ringwood who came out on top winning 20-16.
Disappointed as they will be, Sue and Janie will be travelling to the Nationals. on 29th August, when Hampshire take on Worcestershire in the semi-final of the newly introduced 6 rink inter county competition for players aged Over 60. Sue And Mary Varndell were members of the team and Janie and Ric Newson reserves as, this week, Hampshire beat Surrey to qualify for Leamington and that semi final. Good luck to our players. Bowl well.
