EXTRA END DISAPPOINTMENT
Oakley Bowling Club
The Oakley triple of Nicole Rogers, Heather Statham and Alice Lovett began well at Leamington this morning against Cornwall moving into an early 5-0 lead and after picking up a five they stretched their lead to 12-3. Two ends later they had an opportunity to score another five but a brilliant bowl from Alice narrowly missed the only Cornwall bowl in the head. Cornwall fought back and closed to 13-12 before a four and a single saw Oakley leading 18-13 with just 2 ends to play. The next end saw Cornwall pick up a two after Alice trying to turn out the Cornwall scoring shot, unfortunately pushed in another bowl. It was now a nail biting situation but when Nicole put a bowl within a foot of the jack it seemed Oakley would triumph. A fine take out by the Cornwall skip then took the game to an extra end. Winning the toss on the extra end Oakley opted to take the jack but this was the occasion the Cornwall lead produced her best bowl and when Alice came to bowl her last bowl she was two down. An excellent bowl saw the jack moved and with no one sure who held shot the Cornwall skip elected to play her last bowl and picking up the jack she clinched victory for her team. It must have been devastating for the girls to lose a game in which they had played so well but again they did the Club and County proud.
