The Brookhouse Cup, the Whitchurch League Trophy for Club Champions is a trophy that traditionally eludes Oakley and 2021 proved no different to normal. Our Open Singles Champion has for the last 40 years been our sole representative (other Clubs tend to enter both their men's and women's champions) and this year it was Sean Lassman trying to buck the trend. Playing at Howard Park against Basingstoke Town's Richard Burgin, the pattern of the match was set early on with Richard picking up a 3 and a 2 to lead 5-0. Sean hit back with a 3 and a 2 of his own to tie the score and after 9 ends led 9-8. A 3 put the Town man back in a lead which he stretched to 14-10 before Sean again squared the match at 14-14. Both players were producing some excellent bowls but the green seemed not to allow either to do so consistently. Again Sean dropped a 3 and again he squared up the match at 17-17. Another 3 on the next end was to be decisive and Sean, after a plucky display, eventually went down 17-21.
