The Oakley finals held yesterday saw all titles change hands with Sean Lassman narrowly missing out on a treble, last achieved in 2001. On a lovely sunny morning, Sean opened his account with a 21-16 win over President Ric Newson in the Open Singles, whilst in the Men's event Steve Devonish came out on top with a 21-14 victory over Bob Goodyear. Bowling throughout the day was of a high standard but it was the Ladies Final that was the most nail biting with Sue Dixon racing to an 11-3 lead over Janie Vickers before a great fightback from Janie saw her take the lead at 20-19. The next end saw Sue score a single, after a caliper measure, and Sue clinched the title on the 27th end. Soon Sean was back on the green for the Two Bowl final against Martin Vickers and at 15 ends with the score 11-10 it was anyone's match. Sean, however, hit a purple patch scoring seven on the next four ends to achieve victory. The final match saw Sean and Janie back on the green for the Open Pairs Final against Angie Rowe and Rolf Denny. The latter pair raced out to a 7-0 lead but when the three times previous winners, Janie and Sean, took the lead at 9-8 it looked as if they might add another title to their collection. It was not to be. A score of five on the 10th end put Angie and Rolf back in the driving seat and they went on to win 21-14. Congratulations go to all the competitors and to those who came to watch a festival of bowling. For those just home from the tour it was a long day but at least the weather was fine and we saw some excellent bowling.
