Yesterday evening's clash at Andover in the Tony Allcock trophy was almost a meeting of old friends. So many players in both teams play together in the winter at Longmeadow IBC. The match, however, was highly competitive. The scores were tied after 4 ends but by halfway Oakley had taken a 12 shot lead, principally due to Ric Newson's quartet which had adapted quicker on a fast, tricky rink in windy conditions. Andover kept plugging away but in a match where 26 of the 36 ends were decided by a single shot it was Oakley that picked up the bigger scores and eventually emerged winners by 31 shots to 22.
Oakley scores: Wendy Aherne, Jim Dixon, Janie Vickers and Bob Goodyear lost 12-14; Sue Dixon, Angie Rowe, Spencer Kerley and Ric Newson won 19-8.
