After the disappointment last night, of a last bowl defeat in the BDBA Men's League, Oakley's Men travelled this morning to take on Cove's B team in The National Top Club Competition. With a point available for each of the 5 disciplines, it was Jason Rogers who got Oakley off to a good start by winning the Two Wood Singles. However, in the 4 Wood Singles Ashley Nethercliffe, over the early stages, struggled with length, trailing 2-8 and 11-14, before a late burst of 9 shots in 4 ends saw Ashley home for a second point for Oakley. With the Pairs and Triples winning comfortably and the Fours down narrowly, Oakley were now in the driving seat and when the Cove Pair could no longer win, the match was conceded to Oakley. Scores: Jason Rogers won 18-7; Ashley Nethercliffe won 21-14; Leigh Allen and Nick Hardy won 18-7; Martin Vickers, Sean Lassman and Fred Norris won 18-7; Steve Devonish, Spencer Kerley, Malcolm Grime and Graham Tompkins lost 14-16.
