This morning's Pairs game at the National Finals did not go Oakley's way. The scene was set on the first end when we unfortunately gave away the shot and, after just two ends, Oakley trailed their opponents from Durham 0-4. Ashley and Nick tied the game at 4-4 and after seven ends led 7-4. Heads were close with only 6 shots being scored over the next 5 ends but unfortunately they all went Durham's way with the Durham skip on the twelfth end conjuring a brilliant drawing shot when facing an excellent Oakley four. Undeterred, Oakley pulled back to 10-10 after fifteen ends but with several shots against him on the next end the Durham skip connected with a bare jack and picked up a two. This was to prove decisive as, although Oakley scored a single on the penultimate end, they were unable to win the final and eighteenth end. It was a disappointing end for Ashley and Nick but they have in 2021 done the Club proud, being the County Pairs Champions and losing semi finalists in both the Triples and Fours.
