There were few expectations of a win for Oakley against Cove in this morning's County Mixed Top Club and when our two singles players found themselves 17-4 and 17-5 down and only the triples leading narrowly an early finish to the match seemed likely. Laura Butler, however, staged a stunning comeback and when she closed to 18-20 there remained an outside chance of winning 3 disciplines. It was not to be. Cove, deservedly, came out on top winning 4-1 and will now play Basingstoke Town.
Oakley scores: Laura Butler lost 21-18; Ric Newson lost 21-5; Janie Vickers and Sean Lassman lost 19-5; Christine Williams, Gary Newson and Spencer Kerley won 13-8; Mary Varndell, Sue Dixon, Steve Devonish and Martin Vickers lost 16-14.
