Oakley's Club Finals took place today at Malshanger and there was a good turn out of members to support those playing. The Two Wood Singles saw Mary Varndell, the 2003 and 2014 winner take on Steve Devonish. It was Steve, who made the better start, leading 7-0 after 6 ends but Mary had the better of the next 9 ends and at 15 ends was traillng by just 5 shots and still in contention. Two scores of two for Steve in the next three ends effectively put the game out of Mary's reach and the match finished after 19 ends with Steve leading 16-11.

The Ladies' Singles saw Alice Lovett, fresh from her success at the National Championships, play the holder and twice winner Janie Vickers. Early ends were cagey with Alice leading 5-3 after 7 ends but by 13 ends Alice led 13-4. Janie then picked up a four but five shots on the next 3 ends saw Alice take a commanding lead and she ran out the winner 21-13.

The Acorn Singles saw a finalist from both genders and it was Keith Bringes who made the better start leading 8-4 after 6 ends and by 16 ends he had a good 16-9 lead. A score of four for Diane Yarrall on the next end saw a big change in momentum and Diane finally triumphed 21-18.

The final event of the Day, the Mixed Pairs, saw the 2015 and 2018 winners Janie Vickers and Sean Lassman, featuring in their sixth final, taking on Sue and Jim Dixon. A five on the 3rd end saw Sue and Jim land the first blow but by halfway there was only one shot in it and, with the heads changing often, a close finish seemed likely. However, with the scores level at 13 ends, Sue and Jim took control winning six out of the next seven ends and finished as champions with a score of 21-13.
