GOOD WEATHER, GOOD BOWLING
Sunday was a busy day with the first of our one-day competitions held, in sunny weather, played at Malshanger. There were 36 entries, reduced by late drop outs, to 32 for our Two Bowl Pairs with the teams divided into 3 leagues. Three winners and one runner up progressed to the semi finals before Richard Waters, skipped by John Ryan and Wendy Aherne, partnered by Peter Pearce contested the final. The match went to the last end with Wendy and Peter emerging as winners.
Meanwhile at Cove our National two rink team had a relatively comfortable win over a Cove team that we understand had entered the competiton in the belief that, under the new Bowls England rules, they would be competing in a ladies rather than open event competition.
Oakley scores: Ric Newson, Jamie Fewtrell, Sean Lassman and Bob Goodyear won 25-9, Gary Newson. Malcolm Grime, Steve Devonish and Martin Vickers won 15-11
