Tonight at Banister Park, Oakley's hopes that Nicole Rogers and Heather Statham would qualify for Leamington in the Pairs seemed dashed as the Hyde Abbey rink of Chris Doig and Janet Williamsom took a 6-2 lead at 5 ends and by 11 ends led 15-4 in what was being described as the "Janet Show". Things got no better for Oakley as by 15 ends they trailed 6-18 and at this stage our roving reporter had given up hope! However, Oakley gaining control of the jack went long and by 19 ends had reduced the deficit to a mere two shots, Two on the 20th end saw the game go to a last end decider and somehow Oakley snatched the shot to ensure Oakley has representatives at the Nationals in at least eight events. Our congratulations go the Oakley players and commiserations to Hyde Abbey who had victory snatched from them. Bowls is a game of small margins and this year Oakley have been getting the rubs.
