Tonight at Yateley, the Oakley Senior Four of Mary Varndell, Sue Dixon, Angie Rowe and Janie Vickers took on Cove in the Northern Area Finals of the Senior Fours. With all the Cove players being in the current Hampshire Johns Trophy team, Cove began as hot favourites but Oakley started well and when, on the sixth end, Allyson Flint accidentally trailled the jack to four Oakley bowls, Oakley had a surprise 11-1 lead. Cove's experience now began to show and taking the mat up the green they fought back to 12-8. With Cove then holding 5 shots Oakley looked on the ropes but Janie rose to the occasion and drew second bowl. The Senior Fours is played over only 18 ends and by the end of the 13th Cove had reduced the lead to just 4 shots. Again Cove held a big score, again Janie recovered the situation and then on the 15th end she trailled the jack for a 3 to give Oakley a 19-12 lead, A further 3 on the 16th took the lead to 10 shots and Oakley wrapped up the game on the 17th end. The Club congratulates all 4 players on a fine performance and wishes them success in the County Quarter Finals to be played at Atherley on Tuesday 25th June.
