On the morning it was announced that Tony Allcock had been made a CBE, Oakley travelled to Fleet United to compete in the National Mixed Two Rink Over 60s Trophy which was presented by and is named after him. There was some doubt about whether skip Fred Norris would make it as his plane landed only at 3 am but the lack of sleep seemed to have no effect as his rink picked up a four on the first end. That for the next four ends was as good as it got for Oakley and by 5 ends the club trailed 9-13. Gradually, however, Oakley came into the game and by half way (9 ends) had taken overall a 23-16 lead.the next 3 ends saw the lead extended to 11 and from then on try as they did Fleet were unable to claw back the deficit with Oakley running out winners by 38-25. Oakley Scores: Mary Varndell, Angie Rowe, Bob Goodyear and Fred norris won 18-15, Janie Vickers, Christine Williams, Ric Newson and Ted Brown won 20-10. in the next round Oakley are away to the winners of Farnborough and Alton Social.
