With Oakley's Averil Adams being this year's President of the North Hampshire Women's Bowling Association, their finals were played today on the Oakley green. The morning began in misty conditions with a touch of rain in the air and in this session three Oakley players were involved. The Singles was an all Oakley Final with Camila Kingshott storming into an early 9-1 lead against Janie Vickers. The latter, however, fought back and looked likely to win when she led 20-17, only for Camila to hit a purple patch and sneak home 21-20. The Champion of Champions was also, for much of the game, a tight affair. The pre match favourite was Nicole Rogers, the reigning County Champion of Champions and recent National semi-finalist but her opponent Ann Smith of St Mary Bourne was in no way over-awed and, making Nicole fight for every shot, led in the early stages. With the scores at 11-11 a surprise looked possible. However, a full house then gave Nicole some breathing space and she closed the game out at 21-14. The afternoon, by which time the sun had come out, saw Janie back on the green competing for the Dolly Anstey Trophy - a 2 wood 15 ends competition. As in the morning Janie led with 2 ends to play but when her opponent Janice Doran of Fleet United tied the game at 14 ends and lay 2 shots on the last end it looked as if Janie was again destined to be the bridesmaid. However, with her last bowl, Janie managed to connect with Janice's nearest bowl and pinch a one shot victory. The Club's congratulations go to all three players and our thanks to all those members who prepared the green and did the catering etc.
