THREE MORE AREA FINALISTS

One of Oakley's best ever runs in County Championships continued this week when juniors Nicole Rogers and Heather Statham reached the Area Final of the County Pairs by beating, on a heavy green at Old Basing, the Basing pair of Lin Osborn and Stella Hayden. Two nights later the girls were at it again as, having conceded home advantage, as all rinks at Oakley were booked, they joined up with Alice Lovett to travel to Alton Social and take on the triple skipped by Margaret Holden. Two of the Alton team will be representing England at the British Isles Championships this coming weekend but it was the Oakley underdogs who stormed into a 9-1 lead and led 15-2 before Alton Social conceded after 16 ends. It was a good night too for Oakley's men as they progressed to the Area Finals of the County Fours. Taking on a team from Cove, for the third successive round, the rink of Steve Devonish, Spencer Kerley, Sean Lassman and Fred Norris, yet again began badly going 0-5 down but with the back end playing well they soon recovered and in the end ran out comfortable winners. The Club wishes all three teams success in their Area Finals.
