Tonight in filthy weather, Spencer Kerley and John Lovell of Yateley met in the Area Final of the County Singles. Thirty minutes before the start, play seemed unlikely but a break in the weather saw both players take to the by now heavy green in light drizzle. The early stages went Spencer's way and he led 8-4 but as the rain came down heavily and conditions deteriorated John fought back and after 12 ends Spencer led just 9-8. At this stage the players suggested to Umpire Stuart Logan that, as the bowls were going through standing water, the game should be abandoned. He advised that another end should be played - Spencer was fortunate to lose only two shots - and then told the players the game could be abandoned, provided both players agreed the conditions were too bad. Both players agreed and the match will recommence on Friday with Spencer trailling 9 - 10.
