Tonight at Alton Social, Nicole Rogers, Lorna Devonish, Heather Statham and Alive Lovett continued their postponed Area Fours Final, against Basingstoke Town, which had been abandoned last week with Oakley leading 3-2 after 3 ends. What followed this evening was a high quality, nail biting, game with the lead changing frequently. After 5 ends the scores were 4-4 but by 10 ends the Town had edged into a 9-8 lead. Oakley then moved out to 15-11 after 15 ends only for Town to claw back the deficit to one shot with one end to play. On the 21st end, Town held shot and a measure for second but the measure went Oakley's way so an extra end was necessary. Momentum seemed to be with the Town who won the toss and chose to give the mat away. After the leads and seconds had played, it was Lorna's bowl that lay shot and when Heather put in a front toucher it was left to Alice to put in a blocker which she duly did leaving no way through for the Town skip and so ensuring more Oakley representation at the County Last Eights. Congratulations to our team and let us hope the other Oakley rink, skipped by Janie Vickers, will have similar success when they play their Area Final next week.
