This morning at Malshanger, Oakley took on Alton Social in the Tony Allcock Trophy - the National Mixed Over 60s two rink competition. Early on, home advantage seemed no help as by 5 ends Alton Social led by 11 shots to 5 but over the next 5 ends the Oakley rinks picked up a net 14 shots to move into an 8 shot lead which, at one stage, increased to 16 shots. The rink skipped by Fred Norris was playing much more quickly than that of Ted Brown but suddenly with Social picking up shots on both rinks the gap was only 4 shots. Social were back in the game and it became likely that the pressure at the end would fall on Ted's rink. So it proved but, fortunately with Fred finishing with a 3 and a 2, Ted had a 9 shot cushion for the last three ends and that was sufficient to see Oakley to victory. Scores: Janie Vickers, Dave Harrison, Kay Kerley and Ted Brown lost 17 -21, Sue Dixon, Ruth Bown, Bob Goodyear and Fred Norris won 25-13.
