OAKLEY OLDIES QUALIFY FOR SOUTHAMPTON

Tonight at Fleet United, the Oakley rink of Ric Newson, Spencer Kerley, Bob Goodyear and Fred Norris took on Alton Social in the Area Final of the Senior Fours, the new event introduced by Bowls England for 2017. The first end was disappointing as Oakley gave away a 2 shot advantage but after 5 ends Oakley led 6-1 only to drop 4 shots on the next end. Three successive scores of 4 saw Oakley move into a 18-5 lead and when on the 13th end they picked up a further 4 to lead 24-8, the writing was on the wall for Alton Social, who conceded at 20 ends with Oakley leading 27-15. Congratulations to the Oakley rink who will, along with the other Area winners Cove, compete in the County Last Eights at Southampton on 10th June.
