Tonight's home game in the National Double Rink competition against Whitchurch was a disappointing one for the men who failed to overcome a spirited Whitchurch team. The scene for the evening was set early on as Ted Brown's rink, by 5 ends, trailed by 1-11 and although the rink of Fred Norris was leading 8-2 and, partly compensating for the deficit, the omens were not good. By 10 ends the overall deficit was only 5 shots. However, with Brown's rink still struggling, the position worsened over the next 5 ends and by 15 ends Oakley trailed by 11 shots. Whitchurch were, however, not to be denied and eventually emerged worthy winners by 41 shots to 33. Oakley scores; Ashley Nethercliffe, Sean Lassman, Bob Godyear and Fred Norris won 19-15, Terry Heath, Ric Newson, Spencer Kerley and Ted Brown lost 14-26
