Yesterday at Leamington Spa, Oakley provided 3 of the 8 team members who represented Hampshire in the Amy Rose Under 31 double rink inter county team competition. This competition was originally introduced to encourage younger players into the game but an upper age limit of 31 means that some of the stronger counties are able to field full international players and this can make games one sided. The draw did not favour Hampshire, with only 2 players over 18, who found themselves up against the holders Somerset, who had a particularly experienced team containing 3 full internationals. The Hampshire team began poorly but they dug deep and were never overwhelmed by their illustrious opponents. Eventually, however, Somerset, not unexpectedly, came out on top and they went on to reach the final where they lost to a Devon side that contained even more internationals.
