Oakley Finals this year have been disrupted by Basingstoke and District moving their Finals to the same weekend so, because of some players involvement in both sets of Finals, only 3 of the 7 Oakley Finals could be held yesterday. In the Ladies Acorn Singles Diane Yarrall made a good start leading Carol Crafer 5-0, 11-4 and 16-6 but Carol then won 4 successive ends to reduce the deficit to two shots. Carol's rally, however, then came to an end with Diane triumphing 21-16. The Men's Acorn Singles saw Kevin Vickers and Darren Hyde locked in a tight battle with the lead constantly changing hands and after 13 ends the scores were tied at 8-8. Darren then scored 7 successive slots to give him a handy lead which he retained to the end of the game winning 21-14. The third match of the morning saw Janie Vickers and Sean Lassman, the 2015 Champions take on John Yarrell and Sandra Lee in the Open Mixed Pairs Final. The former began as favourites and when they surged into a 11-1 lead after 7 ends it looked as if the game would soon be over. John and Sandra, however, kept plugging away and eventually went into the 21st end needing a six to tie the game. It was not to be with Janie and Sean emerging as winners by 20-15. Congratulations to all the players who reached the Finals and bowled well before a good crowd of spectators. The Ladies Singles Final will be on Tuesday at 2 pm with the remaining games on Saturday 8th from 10 am.
