Yesterday's County Triples Area Final was so close. On a very quick green at Farnborough, Oakley after 6 ends led Basingstoke Town by 8 shots to 4 but scores of five and three saw Town level the scores at 11 ends. A four on the 13th end saw Town take the lead but when Oakley picked up a three and a five to lead overall by 5 shots with just 3 ends to play the match seemed to be slipping away from the Town. A fourth five of the evening took Town into the last end with a one shot lead but somehow Oakley contrived to pick up the two shots for victory, earning them a trip to Banister Park for the County Finals. Congratulations to Janie Vickers, Sue Dixon and Alice Lovett. After a last end defeat, in similar circumstances, in the Area Final of the Fours they will have been elated to have, this time, got over the line but will appreciate how the Town ladies must have felt at such a narrow defeat in a tense and absorbing contest.
