MEN'S NATIONAL DOUBLE RINK

This morning at Old Basing, Oakley took on Old Basing in the Men's National Double Rink competition. An early 9.30 start did not seem to suit some of our team and after 5 ends we trailed 6-9 with Fred Norris's rink 1-5 down. Gradually, however, Basing were overhauled and by 10 ends Oakley led 22-15. At this stage it looked as if Oakley would move on to a comfortable win but, with neither Oakley rink firing on all cylinders, Basing fought back and at 15 ends had closed the gap to just 5 shots. Somehow Oakley stemmed the flow and eventually ran out winners by 41 shots to 30. Oakley scores: Sean Lassman, Malcolm Grime, Terry Heath and Ashley Nethercliffe won 21-14, Steve Devonish, Spencer Kerley, Ric Newson and Fred Norris won 20-16. In the next round Oakley will travel to Gosport or Cowplain.
