Following Steve and Sean's last end defeat on Sunday in the County Pairs, Oakley players last night succeeded in making it a hat trick of last end defeats as they exited both County Club Championship Trophies. At Pyestock in the Thornbery Trophy the Ladies trailed by between 5 and 10 shots for most of the match but when they took the lead for the first time at 17 ends hopes were raised that a victory might be achieved, It was not to be. Oakley led by 2 shots after 20 ends, but with the two rinks dropping 5 shots on their last end the match was lost 38-41. Oakley scores: Shirley Ball, Laura Butler, Val Ryan and Claire Flannigan won 21-15; Jo Holland, Sandra Lee, Angie Rowe and Janie Vickers lost 17-26.

The men's match at Yateley was similarly close. Oakley trailed by just 1 shot at both 5 and 10 ends. By 15 ends the deficit had increased to 7 shots, but a rally from Oakley meant that the overall score at 20 ends was level. With three teams finished, Oakley led by just 1 shot but again it was last end disappointment as the final team dropped a two and Oakley lost the match 69-70. Scores: John Yarrall, Paul Hammond, Ric Newson and Spencer Kerley lost 19-21; Martin Smith, Jim Dixon, Malcolm Grime and Bob Goodyear won 21-14; Keith Turnbull, John Ryan, Steve Devonish and Sean Lassman drew 18-18; Jamie Fewtrell, Dominic Flannigan, Gerald Norris and Graham Tompkins lost 11-17.
