This evening 17 years old Heather Statham took on the 2015 Winner Camila Kingshott in the Final of the Ladies' Singles. Both players came into the game having had a good season. Heather reached Leamington in the Two Wood Singles and, only on Monday Camila had lifted the North Hants Women's title. It was expected to be a close encounter and so it proved. Heather had the best of the early stages leading 5-0 and 8-2 before Camila closed the gap picking up a full house. Heather then moved out to a 12-6 lead but Camila had much to come and on the 18th end picked up a 3 and took the lead for the first time at 17-16. Putting on the pressure, Camila lay 3 on the next end but Heather drew shot with her last bowl and when she too picked up a 3 on the next end it looked as if the game had swung in her Heather's favour. Nothing is certain in bowls and with a 1 and a 2 Camila tied the game at 20-20 so ensuring a last end shoot out. Camila's first bowl was excellent ending some 9 inches behind the jack but with her second bowl Heather produced a magnificent front toucher which, try as she did, Camila could not move. Heather, therefore, picked up her first Club Singles title and in doing so ensured that for the second year in succession both the Men's and Women's titles have been lifted by our junior members.
