It was a wet and unpleasant morning when Oakley's Ladies took on Farnborough in the semi final of the North Hants Women's Gazette Cup - a team event comprising three triples. Farnborough had the better of the early stages and led 21-19 but by half way Oakley had established a 5 shot lead with two triples going well and one struggling. The triples were all playing at different paces and in this situation you hope that the team, that is losing, finishes first so that the remaining skips know what they need to do to clinch the overall victory. This scenario did not prove possible but as the first team came off the green Oakley led by 11 and the remaining two skips ensured that we did not drop any large scores and Oakley triumphed by 58 shots to 48. Oakley scores: Sue Dixon, Angie Rowe and Janie Vickers won 21-13; Lesley Dumelow, Christine Williams and Laura Butler won 25-11 and Diane Yarrall, Val Ryan and Shirley Ball lost 11-24. The Final against Fleet United, who beat Howard Park by 3, should have taken place this afternoon but, because of the conditions, has been postponed to a date yet to be announced. This will be Oakley's first Gazette Final since 2009 and everyone at the Club wishes success for the team.
