There was a disppointing turnout for the Northern Area rounds of the County Two Wood Championships played today at Oakley but nonetheless the spectators saw some excellent bowling. An early game saw the 2017 County Champion Heather Statham come up against the 2018 Runner Up and fellow Oakley junior Nicole Rogers and it was the latter who sneaked a last end win. Nail biting games were the order of the day for Nicole who subsequently triumphed on an extra end against clubmate Mary Varndell and repeated the feat against Fleet United's Janice Doran to book her place in the County Last Eights to be played on the 8th July at Banister Park. The good news did not, however, end there for Oakley as 15 year old Alice Lovett not only overcame Johns Trophy skip Linda Hayward of Whitchurch but, in a tight encounter, beat Hampshire's longest serving Johns player Allyson Flint of Cove to ensure her first appearance in the County Last Eights. It is believed to be the first time Oakley has provided both representatives in the Last Eights in the same discipline and our congratulations go to both players and we wish them every success in the later stages.
