Yesterday we were pleased to host the Isle of Wight Ladies tourists, as they travelled back from Swansea, on the final game of their County tour. Delayed because of a coach problem en route from Swansea, it was a tight schedule given the need for the tourists to catch a particular ferry but nonetheless the ladies were able to enjoy the excellent buffet lunch provided by Margaret Lee and her helpers. With time not on our side the game was reduced to 18 ends and was played in lovely sunshine which the tourists claimed to have brought with them from Swansea. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and, with help from 4 friends from Hook and Basingstoke Town, Oakley managed a win by 102 shots to 78. Following the game both teams retired to the main clubhouse where a meal (and the customary speeches) was provided and by 6 pm the tourists were back on the road. We hope they enjoyed their visit.
