Oakley BC yesterday hosted the game in which the National President brings a Bowls England team to play against the President's own County. In 2019 the National President is Hazel Marke from Alton Social and we were delighted that she chose Oakley for the game. The Hampshire team was comprised mainly of County Officials, whilst that from England contained the President, the Senior Vice President and a host of other dignatories. Before the game everyone enjoyed a buffet lunch before taking to the green in hot and humid conditions. The game itself seemed to go very much in favour of Hampshire although, according to the President's unique scoring system a draw was the final result. A three course meal followed the game and we were delighted that Hampshire's most decorated players, former National Champions Wendy and Peter Line were able to join us for the meal, after which President Hazel announced that her aims of the day "of having sun, fun and making friends" had been well met. The club would like to thank everyone who helped to make the day a success. Games like this involve a huge amount of work in preparing the green, in catering twice for around 60 people and in running the bar and we are so lucky that members volunteer for these tasks when most will never have the opportunity to play in such a game. Yesterday around 20 members were involved and our thanks go to all of them.
