It was a special day for Janie Vickers, as for the first time as an individual, she played at the National Championships at Royal Leamington Spa. Her first match was scheduled to be against Wiltshire but with her opponent withdrawing Janie, in her first match, found herself up against an opponent who that morning, had already played on D green. To make life more difficult that opponent was the redoubtable Katherine Hawes-Watts an England International since 1997 and the runner up in this event in 2021. Unsurprisingly Katherine made a good start and soon Janie found the score against her ratcheting up. It was not that Janie played poorly, just that Katherine played better. Towards the end of the match Janie found good line and length but it was too late and Katherine, who has gone on to reach tomorrow's quarter final, won 19-5. Janie will be disappointed with the result but it a great achievement to reach Leamington and her supporters from the Club were so pleased for her.
