Following the success of last year's car boot sale it was decided this year to attend again the one at Swallowfields. So at the unearthly hour of 6.00am (is there really such a time on a Sunday?) eleven intrepid members set off from Oakley with a variety of donated items packed into Martin and Bob's vans and Ric's car. By 7 am they were all set up and for those who had never previously attended such an event, it was an eye opener, with people descending on our vehicles as soon as they had arrived and just like a Jumble Sale everyone wanted the items at a knock down price. There were concerns that, as it was Father's Day, our takings might be down on last year but, whilst numbers attending appeared to be lower, trade was very brisk and last year's profit of £370 was easily exceeded with the morning producing a profit of just over £550. In addition there will be further income once we sell off a few items considered by our "experts" to be likely to achieve better results in a more specialised sale. The Club's thanks go to all who dug out items for sale but special thanks go to Ric, Martin, Barry, Kay, Janie, Pat and Jim, Barbara and Bob and Elaine and Simon who arose so early and worked so hard to achieve such a splendid result.
