On Sunday afternoon the Club's annual BBQ was held at Malshanger and, in the middle of a dodgy spell of weather, we were lucky enough to have a fine day that allowed just over 80 members, families and friends not only to sit out on the lawns in sunshine but also to participate in the various games laid on by the Social Committee. This year, for the first time, by kind permission of Mr Jamie Colman, members took part in a Treasure Hunt through the gardens of Malshanger House. Organized by Barry Lee and the Estate’s gardener, Patrick Hennessey, this proved very popular with Lynn Martin and her team coming out as winners. Smiffies BBQ itself was cooked by Martin Smith and Terry Varndell with Margaret Lee and her team providing the salads and sweets and John Wilson, as always, seeing to our liquid needs. An enjoyable afternoon ended only too soon and even the clearing up afterwards proved less of a chore than usual thanks to all those members who stayed behind and to take down gazebos, move tables and chairs etc. Many hands make light work and the Committee is grateful to all who helped
