Tonight at Hook, Oakley's Nicole Rogers and Heather Statham, the County Junior Pairs Winners, took on Yateley in the Northern Area Final of the County Pairs. Neither team really came to grips with the green and there were some scrappy heads but the game was close throughout. At 5 ends Yateley led 6-5 but by 10 ends it was Oakley leading 10-8. At 15 ends Yateley had regained the lead 15-14 and a two on the next end seemed to put Yateley in the driving seat. Successive scores of five and three seemed however, to have turned the match decisively in Oakley's favour only for Yateley to pick up five shots over the last 3 ends to take the game to an extra end. It was now a question of who best held their nerve and, having given away the jack, Heather eventually found herself not needing to bowl her last bowl as Oakley moved into the County Quarter Final. It has been quite a year for the Oakley Ladies who have qualified for Southampton in the Two Wood (both qualifiers), the Pairs, the Triples, the Fours and the Senior Fours. We wish all players the best of luck and hope they will make it through to the Nationals at Leamington.
