Last night saw the start of the Cusheon Trophy event at Loddon Vale Indoor Bowls Club. Originated by the late Laurie Cusheon as a competition for outdoor clubs, the early years saw clubs entering teams of three mixed rinks and the event was popular and well supported. In recent years, however, support has dwindled and even having reduced the entry requirement to two rinks Loddon Vale still found entry numbers reducing so this year clubs have been allowed to enter as single rinks. This change has brought a few new faces into the event and the competition now has 16 teams organised into four leagues of four.

Oakley has entered 3 teams and last night 2 of these were successful with the third team, having led for most of the game, losing narrowly to a strong Whitchurch four.

Oakley Scores: Nicole Rogers, June Harvie, Bob Goodyear and Ashley Nethercliffe won 60-4, Mary Varndell, Heather Statham, Ric Newson and Ted Brown won 43-7, Vera Rhodes, Terry Varndell, Malcolm Grime and John Wilson lost 17-23. The next matches are on the 18th February.
