Sunday morning saw 10 players travelling to Yateley to play Alton Social in the quarter final of the County Mixed Top Club. With only three survivors from the team that in 2022 reached the County semi final, it was always going to be a difficult task to repeat that achievement, particularly against such a strong team as Social. So it proved with Oakley losing all five disciplines and going down 5-0. It was then a rush to get back to Malshanger for the Club's Annual BBQ.

The BBQ proved a huge success. Attended by almost 100 members and friends it was good to have so many of our newer members joining us. The weather was kind and during the afternoon Jamie Colman kindly allowed members to wander around the gardens of Malshanger house and we enjoyed the super singing of local vocalist Kate Aherne before tucking into the burgers, sausages etc served up for us by Graham and Amanda. The bar was busy throughout and our thanks go to all the gentlemen who served behind it. Events like this do not just happen. Gazebos have to be erected (and taken down). Chairs have to put out and taken in again. Plates and glasses need washing. Raffle prizes have to be purchased and tickets sold. II is very much a team effort and thanks go not only to Ric and his Social Committee but to everyone who, on the day, mucked in and helped. We may, today, not have been good at bowling, but we put on and enjoyed a good party.
